It seems that a new brand will soon be added to the already numerous market of smart phones with Android operating system.
This in itself is not surprising, on the contrary, the news that the new brand will come from Qualcomm, a company that is known to date for providing advanced technology processors for mobile devices, is surprising.
The news was originally broadcast by the Taiwanese website DigiTimes, while analysts believe that it is very likely that Qualcomm will launch the new brand in cooperation with Asus since it, apart from the central platform, has no experience in producing integrated devices. On the contrary, with the help of Asus, the project gains access to integrated production structures and the ability to distribute globally.
What Qualcomm seems to be planning is the creation of a smartphone, a “super-phone”, which will be designed by itself but will be manufactured by Asus. It will obviously be a high-end device that will incorporate the company’s top platform, Snapdragon 875, combined with all the top features of Android devices.
Market analysts believe that Qualcomm’s device will be directly comparable to Microsoft’s Surface range of devices and will be used as a means of demonstrating new ideas, features or even new shapes of future devices.
Asus, on the other hand, is a well-known manufacturer of many types of electronic devices and recently produces a series of mobile gaming phones, such as the ROG Phone 3 which uses the Snapdragon 865+ platform, one of Qualcomm’s top proposals.
The new brand is quite likely to be officially announced during the Snapdragon Tech Summit, Qualcomm’s conference to be held online on December 1st and 2nd. By then, Qualcomm will have launched its new flagship SoC, the Snapdragon 875, combined with a new mid-range Snapdragon 700 Series processor. If a real device is not presented at the Snapdragon Tech Summit then this will probably happen at the next major technology exhibitions / conferences, ie at CES 2021 and MWC 2021.
