For the first time in 3 years, Samsung surpassed Apple in smartphone shipments to America. Specifically, according to the analysis company Strategy Analytics, the Korean giant managed to be the number one company in smartphone shipments in the third quarter of 2020.
Samsung accounted for 33.7% of total smartphone shipments in the US for the quarter July to September, up 6.7% from the same period in 2019. Apple was in second place after 3 full years, with a total share of 30.2%. In third place we see consistently LG, which in the US market is doing much better than in Europe, with a total share of 14.7%.
Of course, let’s not forget that an important factor was the late arrival of the iPhone 12, as Apple traditionally released its new devices in September. In addition, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 and the Galaxy Note 20 gave Samsung an extra boost, breaking a long line of Apple. On the other hand, the release of the iPhone 12 will definitely change the landscape in the fourth quarter of 2020, where we expect Apple to be in the first place again.
